The Explorers squared off against the Braddock Bulldogs yesterday in the 9A District 15 District Championship. The Explorers did not disappoint as they took home the district crown by a final score of 5-1. Senior Chris Gonzalez earned the win for the Explorers and threw 5 and 2/3’s innings giving up no runs and striking out 9. The Explorers scored 2 runs in the first inning and Braddock would not be able to come back from that deficit. Senior Danny Martin and junior Kevin Acosta each had a multi hit game and combined for 3 of the Explorers 5 RBI’s. Seniors Mike Fernandez and Cristian Rodriguez and juniors J.C. Mendez and Matt Alfonso had the other 4 Explorer hits in the game. The Explorers look to keep their season alive Tuesday as they play Palmetto High School in the regional semifinal game. The game will be at home.
