Columbus Shuts Down Hialeah Gardens; Win First Game of the Season

The Columbus Explorers opened up the season Monday afternoon facing the Hialeah Gardens Gladiators. Senior pitcher Anthony Arguelles went 4 innings for the Explorers giving up 0 runs while striking out 7. In relief of Arguelles, senior Chris Mederos shut down the Gladiators the following 3 innings not allowing a single hit and striking out 1. Freshman Ariel Garcia brought in a run on his RBI double off the left field wall early on in the game. Followed by this, senior Michael Mas brought him home on an RBI single. Mas was 2-3 with 2 RBI on the day. Junior Carlos Linares also had a multi hit game with the other RBI to give the Explorers the 4-0 win. The Explorers face the Kilian Cougars to continue the BSN Explorers Challenge.
