Columbus Volleyball Begins with Victory, Belen Next

This last Monday, the Boys Volleyball team kicked off their season. The team faced off against International Studies Charter High School in a straight set victory. The first set was won 25-7, the second 25-9 and the third 25-17. “We took today as if it was a practice. We know it wasn’t the biggest team we’ve played so we knew it’d be smart to run different things and see what our team could really do,” Alejandro Navarro, senior, stated after the match. The game did not consist of a specific line up and the reason is because Coach Peñate wanted to try different squads and figure out what will be best for the team.

The boys will face off here at home against Belen this Friday for a charity game in what is expected to be a full house. Although the Explores haven’t faced off against Belen in two years, they are working towards a victory. Junior Varsity will play at 6, followed by Varsity at 7:15. All funds collected will be donated to charity. The season has just begun but the Explores will be looking to play every game like it’s the State Final.
