Columbus Volleyball Has A Big Week Expanding Their Wins
The Explores played last Friday against school rival team Belen. Only their second game of the season and the boys made it look like they hadn’t stopped playing since last year. A large crowd attended the match and was entertained with the scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-22. Juan Diaz led the team with 34 assists and Andres Blandino had 11 kills. To add to the scoring, Roberto Heinert went 7 for 7 with a 100 hitting percentage. This was a big victory but the boys were not done yet.
The following Monday, Columbus faced off against Mourning High School in a 5 set battle. The Explorers kicked off the game with 2 sets won but the Sharks fought back making the score even after they won the following 2 sets. The fifth and final set was a well played game which ended in a victory after Andres Blandino slammed the ball down on game point. The Explores won the game 25-16, 25-20, 21-25, 18-25, and 15-11. Nicholas Suarez led the team with 11 kills and 4 aces, followed by Andres Blandino with 10 kills and 2 blocks. The team put an end to a four year losing streak to Mourning High School.
Lastly, the Explores played against Coral Gables. The Explores played a quick game beating the Cavaliers in straight sets. Andres Navarro had a standout game racking up a handful of points in the middle. By the end of the week, the team has been able to add 3 wins to their now 4-0 season. Next week the Explores will play against La Salle High School on Monday and district rival, Saint Brendan on Wednesday. Both are home games. Adelante!
