Explorers Blank Key West 11-0; Win Streak Improves to 7

On a special night for Explorers Head Coach Joe Weber, the Exploers took on the Key West Conchs. Coach Weber was honored before the game in a ceremony celebrating his 500th win as head coach at Columbus. The Explorers kept the celebration going throughout the game, giving Coach Weber the best present a coach could ever ask for, a perfectly played baseball game. Junior Jonathan Gonzalez got the win for the Explorers throwing 4 perfect innings and striking out 3. Senior Anthony Vega closed out the game for the Explorers as both pitchers combined to throw a one hit shutout. The Explorers bats continued to stay red hot as junior JP Herholtz was a perfect 4 for 4 on the day. Junior Jorge Braceras added 2 hits and 3 RBI’s for the Explorers. Both players led an amazing hitting attack for the Explorers as they scored a run in every inning and put together 12 hits. Junior Jonathan Velasquez hit his third homerun of the year to put the Explorers up 11-0 and end the game by mercy rule. The Explorers look to push their win streak to 8, as they take on Miami High tonight at 6 at home.
