In Honor of Tommy Tercilla
By Alexander Santana
On November 29, 2015, Christopher Columbus High School tragically lost an intelligent and distinguished graduate. Thomas G. Tercilla, a member of the Class of 2015, passed away from a brain aneurysm while in Miami for the Thanksgiving holiday. Tommy, as he was known by friends, family, and teachers, had an amazing life ahead of him. He was a freshman at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, the world’s first collegiate business school. At Columbus Tommy was a member of the Mas Family Scholars Program whose curriculum is considered to be one of the most challenging for high school boys in South Florida. Tommy also volunteered at the University of Miami Mini Canes Summer Camp and at His House Children’s Home.
Tommy’s father, Orlando Tercilla, described his 19 year old son as “a smart and charming young man who regularly went out of his way to help those around him.” Mr. Tercilla also said that he “wouldn’t trade our 19 years with him for 40 with another kid. He was my best friend, my idol, my everything.”
Eternal rest shine upon him, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon him. And may the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Saint Marcellin Champagnat Pray for Us. Mary Our Good Mother Pray for Us. And let us remember to pray for each other.
In lieu of flowers, the Tercilla Family requests donations to benefit the Thomas George Tercilla Scholarship Fund to provide financial assistance to students at Christopher Columbus High School and the Better Families for Tae Kwon Do, who is also establishing a scholarship in honor of Tommy. If you would like to donate to Columbus’ Thomas George Tercilla Scholarship Fund, please contact Br. Kevin Handibode F.M.S., Columbus President.
May almighty God comfort the Tercilla family during this most troubling time and may He grant Tommy everlasting peace and harmony. Tommy, we miss you and we will never forget you. Adelante!
