Lacrosse Coach Jim Delang notches his 100th win as Head Coach
By Ferny Cordal
On February 20, 2016, the Varsity Lacrosse team beat Archbishop McCarthy High School with a final score of 18-6. The game saw great performances in goal from junior Leonardo Guerra and senior Henry Trent. Seniors Mike Perry and Danny Ramirez had solid plays on defense which proved to be turning points for the offense. This game had put the Explorers above (.500) for the season with a 3-2 record.
This game was more than just any other win. This win was Coach Jim Delang’s 100th win as head coach for the Columbus Explorers. Coach Delang began coaching at Columbus in 2009 when the lacrosse program was relatively new. Since taking over, Columbus has gone 100-37 (0.729) over the last 7 years. Coach Delang won the Miami Herald Coach of the Year in 2013 and has helped lead Columbus to numerous district championships. Coach Delang has also helped organize Christmas toy drives for the less fortunate and has impacted the lives of many student-athletes throughout his tenure at Columbus. Coach Delang has turned around the Columbus lacrosse program from teams that went 2-15 into contenders for state championships. He is truly one of the GOATs (greatest of all time). 🐐
Congratulations Coach Delang!
The team’s next game is this Friday, at home, at 4:30 pm, v American Heritage Plantation.
